"Since Terry has been with us our productivity has gone up 46%"
Here's hoping our company doesn't resort to recruiting Mr Tate - otherwise I'll have to remember to fill up the coffee jug. (Windows Media, requires sound) posted by ralawrence at 6:40 AM PST [trackback] (29 comments total)
Trackback posts: Terry Tate, Office Linebacker (Windows Media). Hysterical. Apparently part of a Reebok ad campaign or somesuch. (via MetaFilter) more at The McWetlog

On behalf of my entire team here at work I would like to thank you for this hilarious post. We really needed that.

Wow, for a reebok commercial I'm very impressed. Especially with the writer who squeezed in the TPS Reports reference.

Hilarious! My sides have split and my innards are falling out in lumps and clumps :).

Depends what you mean by "football" machaus. I'm English so I like the proper version - but you're right, I don't really care much for the American flavour :o)

none of you watched the super bowl?

I'm usually loathe to watch what are in reality, extended commercials. However, when this made the rounds of my office the other day, I couldn't help myself - my laughter could be heard down the hallway. Extremely funny and well done, but we should all acknowledge the fact that it owes much to the groundbreaking work of Office Space.

machaus, here in Canada, the commercials have been hijacked by the local networks. Yeah, I know... it's quite the gyp.

Speaking of Office Space, the indie flick Haiku Tunnel should also be mentioned.

Not to mention use of the word felcher
Warning. The definition of "felch" gained by clicking on this link may be considered obscene by some readers. Also considered obscene may be the pop-up window which appears by clicking on aforementioned link

The whole "TPS reports" is whats get me laughing - personally I think the funniest advert in the series is where he slam-tackles the Nike streaker guy.
(since that is a members only link you might want to try this one and scroll down a wee bit just to see the screenshot of it)
darn how do you guys make teeny fonts?
posted by dabitch at 7:49 AM PST on February 6
Dabitch: You use the and tags so it comes out like this. You might want to also use and so it's a bit more readable
posted by ralawrence at 8:03 AM PST on February 6
hopefully said pop-up doesn't actually illustrate that definition visually.

Shorter, televised version was funnier. Although him yelling "bitch!" and "motherfucker!" is kind of amusing, of course.

"small" - duh I should've known. thanks ralawrence... quonsar - great link.
posted by dabitch at 8:33 AM PST on February 6
The shorter version was the one I received via email. If people want to see that too, then I'll put it up (temporarily) on my website.
posted by ralawrence at 8:36 AM PST on February 6
ralawrence: That'd be cool. You know, I'm a Terry Tate completist.

Shorter TV version can be downloaded from here (5.6 meg). It's been zipped up so people have to download the actual file rather than running it straight off my machine (and eating bandwidth).
I will remove it at 5pm GMT (24 hours from the time of this posting).

Someone has now put up a sign at the coffee machine that says, "You kill the joe, you make some mo'!"

So I watched the Superbowl and saw this ad and thought to myself, "Man, that Terry Tate sounds like a familiar thing." I looked up "Terry Tate" later and, sure enough, I had heard of it before. The ad, in its original form, was a short film made by a USC Film School student (I won't name him, you can look it up if you need to) whom I attended college with (was just "hello" acquaintance with him). The Terry Tate idea is actually something I remember seeing in its initial form a good 3 or so years ago when I posted some image sketches for the idea somewhere online as a favor for a mutual friend. Anyway, the short film was picked up by an ad agency or something and Reebok went with it. From what I hear, the student will soon be directing a Dreamworks comedy that has something to do with Ben Stiller.

quonsar, "The Felch Rangers" !! Oh my god, that sounds like a very scary football club. Proper English football, of course. *grin*

"That's a long distance call, Doug!"
Where did Reebok get the footage from the Nike commercial? Is it just a good copy or is that publically available?

They just shot a new ad [it's another man playing the streaker] and they did really well... I think it's the same actor doing the voice-over.
