bum wines

Instead of hitting the bars this Friday, why not find a cozy bus stop and a $2 bottle of one of these fine wines? Warning: “Don’t drink too much of any of these or you might find yourself at the local middleschool sniffing bicycle seats.”

End of the war on drugs?

Well, no. But the White House is ending the ad campaign that suggest a connection between drugs and terrorism, citing the ineffectiveness of the ads. The funds will be rechanneled toward a campaign aimed at convincing current drug users to quit. The upshot of all this (to those of us who think the entire “war on drugs” to be horribly misguided) is that the Powers That Be at least appear to be evaluating the effectiveness of their strategies. Perhaps sooner or later they’ll get the bigger picture.

Paper Craft

Yamaha of Japan has an amazing collection of cut-and-paste paper models (including this Mikoshi festival shrine, various endangered species, and some frighteningly realistic Yamaha motorcycles), all downloadable in PDF format and ready for a color inkjet printer. Doesn’t it look like rain this weekend?

Hand-painted movie posters from Ghana, including the 1990 classic House Party (pictured).

Posteritati, a massive collection of international posters for sale in a searchable database.

Big collection of Japanese movie posters, organized by decade.

The Polish collection from the The Movie Poster Page is just amazing.

like stealing but better

If you like to save money you’ve come to the right place. Our unique process of shared database building based on preshopping, re–coding and postshopping enables you to pay only what you’re willing to for the name–brand products you want.

It’s like Priceline, but it works! Besides being totally brilliant and immoral, the design of this site is more snappy and professional than most retailers. Watch the video.

Readerville is featuring a weekly Most Coveted Covers collection. I’ve always felt that some of the best art and design being produced today winds up on the jackets of novels…

Plastic Fantastic

A lot of jokes and Youth Culture cheering have come out of the discovery of National Guardsman Optimus Prime. However, it’s really the amount of personal meaning that Prime invested in a toy that seems absurd. In fact, it’s not really that surprising.

Fan sites might seem a bit silly to some, but toys are not only educational and developmental, they’re serious business and also become deeply ingrained in our personal histories.

I’ll just bet it comes pre-programmed with “Tainted Love”, although for a few dollars more they might upgrade it to “Sex Dwarf”.
